Griel Marcus personally chose to use my design: Originally presented for the cover of Mystery Train, he liked it so much he went with this and chose another of my designs for the cover of the Penguin paperback edition of Mystery Train.

Depicting Elvis as a prisoner of his own success/The USA, referencing "Jailhouse Rock", the US flag becoming the incarcerating bars. Which considering I had no idea that his manager Colonel Tom Parker wouldn't let him leave the States (No passport for you you Elvy boy) to tour, seems quite prescient.
